Driving in the 502 north from Albuquerque, is the city of Los Alamos. We cross San Ildefonso Off Reservation Trust Land with an impressive view from Anderson Overlook.
There, we find Los Alamos National Laboratory, where during World War II was developed the Project Y or Manhattan Project directed by Robert Oppenheimer to make the first atomic bomb.
Los Alamos Historical Museum is housed in the historic Guest House, which is next to Fuller Lodge, of Los Alamos Ranch School. This place was where General Leslie Groves’s stayed during the Manhattan Project.

The Los Alamos area was also home to several Pueblo communities. The Pueblos trace their heritage to the Ancestral Pueblo people, whose civilization began in 1200 BC and eventually extended over much of the Southwest. The San Ildefonso Pueblo was the nearest to the project site.

I am sure if you come on vacation to States, this place may be not the most visited one, but we had some more time, and it is a place where you can feel the recent history of the 20th century, so, we took the way to Los Alamos from Albuquerque
Actually, the Laboratory is currently a little bit apart and research continues to be carried out, some more secret than others. The part we visited is for tourists and it was the living place of the scientists who were part of the Project Y in the 40s and later.
Our children, after explaining the context in which the project was developed, found it interesting. In my case, during my adolescence, references to the Cold War or possibilities of a Third and final nuclear war were common, which made it even more interesting to visit this place.
As we arrived, it goes through landscapes that would deserve another visit, but time was over, I am sure we will have more occasions.
When we finished this visit to some of the places that marked the history of the 20th century, we ended up walking through the streets of Los Alamos and a short visit to some of its museums, it was a perfect sunny day.
Main Entrance Gate to the Laboratory which was established in 1943 as site Y of the Manhattan Project for a single purpose: to design and build an atomic bomb.

Quien sabe!
